Union Business Agent

Based in Sacramento, CA

Annual Salary Range: $69,293.00 – $118,481.00

Job Description:
The Union Business Agent position provides the full range of representation to members in their assigned areas. This includes but not limited to: grievance and discipline handling through the arbitration process; contract negotiations; assisting, developing, training, stewards; appearances before governmental councils, boards and commissions; working with coalitions and other labor organizations; political action; internal communications programs; and internal and external organizing.

Job Duties:

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with members, Union leadership, staff, and elected officials.
• Negotiate contracts under various collective bargaining laws and with a variety of agencies.
• Investigates and processes grievances and disciplinary appeals in accordance with federal and state laws, agency(s) policies and procedures and/or negotiated contracts with the employer.
• Train and assist stewards in organizing and representational work.
• Work with leaders in the development and implementation of worksite issue campaigns.
• Assist and train leaders to build stronger locals through internal organizing, and external organizing campaigns.
• Other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Ability to establish correlation with and organize members in widely diversified ethnic, social, and economic groups.
• Experience in advocacy and leadership development.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Quick learner possessing strong interest and working knowledge of labor rights and contract language.
• Research and analytical skills necessary to assess and plan effective assignments.
• Valid California driver’s license and insurance.
• Reliable vehicle.
• A willingness to work extended hours and some weekends.
